Henk is an experienced IT manager with a solid background in software engineering, software architecture, agile methodologies and change management. He built his first amplifiers and computers at high school, studied electronics at the University in Twente, and then started working as an independent programmer and advisor. Henk joined Ernst & Young Consulting, which was acquired by Capgemini. Within Capgemini Henk built the Java unit for financial services, and became the unit manager for the advanced development unit. Within Capgemini Henk was one of the few distinguished (global) software engineers and part of the CTO network. Most of Henk’s projects and consultancy assignments were in financial services. Henk gave agile and engineering training in many countries in the world. Henk joined ING in the midst of their agile transformation, and is now the Chief Architect for the Retail Bank in the Netherlands.
As ING’s Chief Architect Henk is responsible for simplifying the architecture, improving resilience, and the automation of IT itself. Which includes INGs global continuous delivery platform, ING’s IT Academy and ING’s micro services platform.
Henk loves helping talented people to discover their mission or purpose in life. Especially if it involves creating or maintaining robust and scalable software. And, if it involves creating software one way or the other, making that purpose happen for them. Loves system design thinking, reads anything he can gets his hands on involving new technologies or transformational leadership.
