Roland had his very first contact to the agile software development methodologies in his former job position. He worked for a large American software company as a technical consultant in the field of collaborative software and SOA solutions for various customers. In 2010 he joined Kuehne + Nagel as a requirements engineer and started his engagement in the eCommerce project KN FreightNet. At that moment, it was one of the first projects using agile software development within the company. Due to ambitious deadlines, the time pressure made the team learn to work agile the hard way in order to deliver. This was possible due to the heavy use of mechanisms like short feedback cycles and Retrospectives, which led the team to a constant improvement of its working model and overall team setup. After its success was proven, the project grew to have a bigger business scope within the company and accordingly, a bigger amount of people are working on it. Today it conforms a separate department within the IT organization led by Roland. It is responsible for the development and maintenance of KN FreightNet as Kuehne + Nagel’s eCommerce platform.
